Beauty Invites

Beauty belongs to the heart. Beauty is relational. It is a heart attitude. True beauty is an emotional response to all that is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praise worthy. Beauty can only be appreciated by a beautiful heart. To pursue beauty one has to travel the road of truth with understanding and love with character.

Class description: Chinese Brush Painting emphasizes the beauty of simplicity, flowing brush strokes and graceful design and compositions. Chinese brush painting, with its emphasis on the beauty of simplicity flowing brush strokes, and graceful designs, reflects time-honored principles of Chinese philosophy and culture.

Practicing Chinese brush painting helps one quiet the mind and expand creative self-expression and discipline. Learning this art form motivates the students to observe critically, practice purposefully, express deliberately, explore creatively, compose artistically. It trains the students to follow instructions, internalize imageries, translate 3 dimensional understanding onto 2 dimensional paper.

They will also learn color theory while loading the brushes. The students will learn to work with the bamboo brushes and various brush techniques, using water color on rice paper. They will develop confidence in their painting through demonstrations, individual instructions and practice. This course is ideal for people with or without previous art training.

The 4 hours will include stroke practice, design elements attainment, perspectives of design elements, placement of design elements, simple composition, painting considerations and combination of simple compositions. I will demonstrate each module and the students can work on their own pace.
