How To Bring Chinese Brush Painting to your School or Organization
Chinese Brush Painting emphasizes the beauty of simplicity, flowing brush strokes and graceful design. Learning this art form motivates the students to observe critically, practice purposefully, express deliberately, explore creatively, compose artistically while learning to follow instructions and internalize imageries,. The students will also learn color theory through loading the brushes with the three primary colors and black and white, as well as various brush strokes and composition.
The following programs may be selected or combined to meet your needs:
Chinese Brush Floral Painting Demonstration
Chinese brush painting techniques with floral paintings may be demonstrated to students from Kindergarten to 12th grade. When demonstrating to 1 or 2 classes, the students may sit around my table. When demonstrating to a larger group of students, vertical presentation or video projection may be arranged. The demonstration may range from 20 minutes to 60 minutes per session.
Chinese Characters Demonstration
Many Chinese characters are derived from pictures and ideas. These pictograms and ideograms are used for communication and record keeping. The exploration of these characters gives us a window to peak into ancient Chinese’ mindsets and understanding. The most fascinating finding is that traces of Genesis stories are embedded in many Chinese Characters. This demonstration may range from 10 minutes to 45 minutes.
Hands-on Chinese Brush Painting Experience
The students may get a taste of Chinese Brush Painting experience through hands on session. This may range from 45 to 60 minutes in duration for a maximum of 25 students per session. The students may paint black and white paintings for easy transition and clean up or they may paint color paintings with extra time for clean up and transition. The materials and supplies may be provided with a rental fee of $1.00/students for black and white and $2.00/students for color painting. The material fee will cover the use of bamboo brushes, brush rest, color mixing plate, ink, and rice paper, colors for the colored sessions. The students may keep their painting but return all material after the session.
Chinese Brush Painting Workshop
The students may take a series of 5, 10 or more sessions of Chinese Brush Painting instructional classes to explore the many principles and elements of Chinese Brush Painting. The students will learn the brush techniques to paint various flowers or creatures. This may be arranged through the artist in residence or after school enrichment programs.
Costs, Supplies and Facility Requirements
- Except for the workshop, a standard rate of $30/hour will be charged. This will include the elapsed time and travel time to and from my house.
- Facilities and equipment requirements:
- A chair and table surface about 20"x20" for each student doing hands-on exercises.
- Easy access to water for clean up.
- Supplies: Supply list will be provided, or supplies may be purchased or rented from the artist with the agreed upon material rental fee.
