About the Artist

Tehwan Tso

Tehwan Tso was born into an artist family in Taiwan. Her father was a professor of fine art and an artist who specialized in oil portraits. Tehwan studied Chinese brush painting under an artist in Taiwan until she moved to New York at the age of 15. Painting became her favorite hobby and secondary occupation during her school years, technical career and home schooling years.

Tehwan graduated from the Engineering College of the State University of New York at Buffalo. She worked as an engineer and system analyst for seven years for Petro-Canada, Boeing, and Rosenblatt and Son’s consulting.

Tehwan has been home raising her four children for the past twenty years, home educating them while teaching Chinese brush painting part time. She has taught art classes at The Art Place in Cobb County, The Art Station in Kennesaw, Kennesaw State University Continuing Education, Cherokee Arts Council, Callaway Gardens, You Gotta Have Art, First Baptist Church Woodstock, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Atlanta Chinese School and Cobb County Artists in School Program.

A promotional program for Cobb County Art Centers featured Tehwan on TV23 community television channel. A full-page article in the Marietta Journal also featured her art work and instructional classes. She demonstrated floral brush painting in the Southeastern Flower Show at the World Congress Center in February 2006. This year she joined the School Art Program in Fulton County. She is a member of the Atlanta Artists Center.

Notes from Tehwan

Beauty is of the heart. Beauty is a heart attitude matured from kindness and love, and their foundation is truth. So if we live by truth, love will emerge. And if we live by love, beauty will manifest. To pursue beauty, one has to travel the road of truth and love. To capture beauty by painting, one has to capture truth by understanding and love by character. Understanding these principles, I apply my life to proclaim truth, promote love, and pursue beauty.

My purpose in teaching and sharing art is to draw others
To see God’s beauty with admiration
To marvel at God’s originality with a sense of awe
To delight in God’s wisdom with confidence
To hear God’s tender whisper of love with understanding
To celebrate God’s creativity with enthusiasm
To capture God’s rhythm with joy
To share God’s truth with sincerity
To praise God’s grace with gratitude
To worship God with freedom

I welcome invitations from schools, clubs, or churches to demonstrate and teach Chinese Brush Painting as well as sharing the Genesis stories in Chinese Characters.
